When the first aliens come to Earth, it is not with altruism or malicious intent, but with profit in mind. Their arrival presents great opportunities for humanity, with the offer of miracle cures and advanced technology... for the right price! What will a nation pay for exclusive rights to end cancer, or to possess the first interstellar spaceship? Only mining rights to the moon, or perhaps a few metric tons of gold—for a good faith deposit. Bids run fast and furiously among many industrialized nations, but not everyone is invited to participate, seeding greater global tensions. As the nations of the planet sell the solar system’s resources for a shot at tomorrow, there remain those few individuals with suspicions, but still others with almost religious devotion toward “the Visitors.” Stuck in the middle is Michael Baldwin, Special Assistant Advisor to the President for Alien/Human Policy Affairs. Sometimes feeling in over his head, he is afforded opportunities few humans could have ever dreamed of, but at what price? The answer will lead him to the truth of Earth’s alien benefactors, and an unlikely meeting of madmen at the crux of a madcap investigation. Snake Oil is a cynical sci-fi story of humanity’s First Contact with an alien race. Full of comic relief and zany characters, it is a compelling exploration of what could happen if Earth’s first alien visitors turn out to be a bit more like us, after all.
Snake Oil Bruno Lombardi Books
As a man who typically buys another science fiction book from kindle every four days, sometimes five in a single week, I'd like to think I am well versede in new authors attepts at self-publishing and first timers breaking out into new territory. It's not easy.Having said that, this is the funnyiest book I've read all year! I'm not sure some of the Ha Ha moments are the authors attempt to be4 funny or just happen to be that way, but it is. It's facinating! Like watching a locomotive rolling down the track and hitting a car whose brake line just blew and sent it rolling down the hill to meet its impending doom!
Sometimes real life is funny. the suspense builds from watching events come unfold to the hopefull climax. other things hit you like the proverbial tone of bricks. I've laughed ouyt loud a good twelve different times before chapter eighteen rolled around.
Whatever else you end up writing about, you must produce more fiction in their vein of entertainment. You've got a great carreer as a writer.
But more importantly for this fan, I WANT MORE! Lots more, and plenty of it, in endless veriety.
Keep going!

Snake Oil Bruno Lombardi Books Reviews
What I loved most about Snake Oil is the story idea. It's not often you see alien first contact as anything but hostile. It's even more rare that you see first contact as a business transaction. And what a business transaction! Human civilisations get to compete from the technologies they buy, which unleashes comedic political chaos.
The cast of characters is also very interesting, many with unusual and funny personalities. The author is not afraid of using characters that aren't stereotypes, which makes the book refreshing.
A well written, tongue firmly planted in cheek, story about a very different sort of alien invasion. If you are the sort of reader who has wondered what an invasion by Galactic Grifters would look like, this is the book for you.
Unlike most Alien Invasion stories the visitors here are neither highly evolved culturally nor are they mindless reavers bent on mass destruction. These guys are closer to the Dutch traders who bought Manhattan for some trinkets and a couple axes than to the Conquistadors. They don't really want the Earth, just everything they can steal.
The book features a divergent cast of characters, some clearly drawn from the author's life and expanded on in ways that have to be read to appreciate. Especially noteworthy is ElevenEleven, a lunatic who deserves a place in the patheon of fine crazies that have provided chuckles to readers for generations.
A not to be missed book. Judging by it, it is likely to be the first of many humorous, if not LOL funny works from a great new writer who has traces of Clark in his lighter moments.
I've gotten away from writing reviews in recent years, for no reason other than laziness I suppose.
However, I wanted to at least take a moment to thank the author of this "free" book (kindle unlimited). I downloaded 4 books for my holiday travels, and this was by far the best of the bunch. This book is absurd, funny, and satirically perceptive...I was reminded a lot of Scalzi's Agent to the Stars. I was also reminded of Weir's The Martian from the sense that I was very impressed that a new author was able to pull off so much good humor and wit via internal dialog.
At least I assume this is the author's first novel, as the search page didn't really show anything that made sense...
Anyways, cheers to a very entertaining read!
Read it, I bet you will love it. I most certainly do. I hope this is the first of many more to come from an excellent author.
Aliens arrive with "such a deal." A wonderful twist on First Contact, full of sly digs at business, politics, cults, and humans in general. Lots of interesting characters even though they are used as cliches and stereotypes, as well as fascinating alien cultures. Sort of a manic Terry Pratchett with the same wry social commentary. I loved it.
The author's unique sense of humor is present throughout an original vision of first contact with an alien race, and a realistic portrayal of the way the residents of our little blue planet react to it. Riddled with sci-fi references and a cast of characters that range from the seemingly mundane to the extremely colorful, Snake Oil is an excellent story from an author to keep your eye on.
This is an excellent novel by a new author. The tale is of first contact with aliens, and for once, they aren't wanting to blow up the White House, induct us into the vast Federation, or eat our brains. We meet two types of aliens. The first is the boiled down essence of every used car salesman or telemarketer you've ever met, only with fewer scruples. The other is the equivalent of an SEC inspector, one of those handful of people who know and understand vast and intricate business regulations. Actually, the novel focuses less on the aliens and more on their affect on the people of Earth, who respond in a variety of ways. Some are ecstatic, some are skeptical, some are awed by the vastness of space and the idea of life out there, and one guy believes the whole thing is an intricate multi-trillion dollar conspiracy to make us all believe in aliens (ooookay). The story is littered with gags that make you laugh and at the same time think, "You know, it would happen just that way!" There are some funny and all-too-believable email, chat room, and message board chapters. The end of the story is a chaotic and goofy scramble to 'find the truth', and (not to give too much away)humanity manages to come out better than they were before first contact, and standing solidly on their own (which was completely unintentional on behalf of the aliens, of course). So, a funny story with an upbeat ending. I highly recommend this book.
